Jay Landsman, Jr.
For the first time in 12 years, there will be another name on the ballot for sheriff in Carroll County. The current sheriff has run unopposed since 2014. Competitive elections contribute positively to the democratic process by bringing forward new ideas, encouraging voter participation, and maintaining accountability in government.
Jay possesses the necessary law enforcement leadership experience and background in the field of criminal investigations needed for this new role. He has served in investigative assignments responsible for handling incidents ranging from street level crimes such as thefts, assaults, burglaries and robberies to narcotics distribution cases, homicide/missing person investigations, and vice related offenses such as human trafficking. He is a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and a dedicated police professional. Jay believes in setting a positive example and placing the needs of the people he serves ahead of his own.
Jay is a servant leader. If elected, he would like to see funding that is designated for the sheriff's significant salary increase to be reallocated to support the people who deliver critical services to our communities.
Efforts to protect our schools and build resilience in our critical infrastructure have to be ongoing. Each facility or event come with unique challenges. We must continuously look for ways to leverage technology, strengthen physical security measures, identify potential threats, and encourage open lines of communication with partners to shrink the window of opportunity for potential threat actors.
Carroll County continues to grow and develop. Growth and development will inevitably bring real world challenges associated with mental health, drug abuse, domestic violence, juvenile crime, child abuse, and other violent crime. These challenges will require collaboration among public safety and support resources to find the approach to effectively prevent, investigate, and prosecute crime, and to achieve the best possible outcome for the communities we serve.
Any traffic fatality is unacceptable. Traffic enforcement and safety initiatives should be informed by data and tailored to address community concerns. If existing enforcement methods are ineffective in reducing violations and complaints, alternative strategies must be considered. Jay will collaborate with the community to develop solutions that effectively address their specific concerns.
To carry out effective law enforcement and public safety strategies, ego MUST be checked at the door and there needs to be collaboration among law enforcement resources, the state's attorney's office, and our public and private partners. Cases do not end with the initial response, and so much work is done out of the public view by unsung heroes who work tirelessly to support our community. Jay will work with partners to address concerns about school safety, traffic safety, crime, and public safety to achieve the best possible outcome for our communities.
